DESCRIPTION
This is Shadow, caught in his happiest moment — the one my husband and I used to call "getting squinched." That's what happened when he'd been petted so much, so well, that one ear would flatten and his eye would squint shut in pure contentment. That exact, blissed-out look is what I painted here, and it's the look I'll remember always.

Shadow passed away in 2020, and this portrait is how I keep a piece of him close — not the sadness of losing him, but the joy of who he was. This is what love looked like on his face, and I wanted to capture it in oil paint so it would last.

This piece is also a sample of what I can do for your own pet. I take commissions in oil, pastel, and watercolor — if you have a moment like this with your own animal, happy or bittersweet, I'd be honored to help you hold onto it the way I've held onto Shadow.
